This past week, we have been overwhelmed by the kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity shown by the many wonderful people who loved Fay. We are incredibly appreciative of the beautiful messages, memories, and photographs that you have shared with us. In memory of our beloved Fay, Mutts-n-Stuff has established a memorial fund to build Fay’s Phoenix House, a halfway home for dogs rescued from dog fighting busts. Fay’s Phoenix House will provide a safe haven where victims of dog fighting can decompress and learn how to be a dog. To answer the requests of a memento of Fay, we are offering a silver pendant with an imprint of Fay’s nose. Before Fay’s third surgery to repair her face, Dr. Marcy took a wax imprint of Fay’s nose with the intent of making a silver necklace as a gift for her foster mom Gale. Fay’s nose print necklace will be available, by request, for all donors who make a contribution of $100 or more to Fay’s Phoenix House Memorial Fund. You can contribute to the memorial fund and request Fay’s Nose Print Necklace by making a donation through PayPal or by mailing a check with a note to Mutts-n-Stuff PO 187, Foristell, MO 63348.
Other ways you can help us build Fay’s Phoenix House include:
- Purchase a 2010 Mutts-n-Stuff calendar. We are offering two beautiful choices this year to celebrate our love for the breed. “The Faces of the Victims of Dog Fighting” features dogs rescued in the July 2009 bust, including beautiful pictures of Fay and Dharma. “Pups and Pin-Ups” features pin-up girls and their pits in classic 40’s and 50’s style. Each calendar is $20 with the proceeds going to Fay’s Phoenix House and babesia treatment for the recent victims from the bust.
- Sponsor a paving stone for the pathway with a $50 contribution or a park bench with a $2,000 contribution (both include engraving); sponsor a kennel run with a $2,000 contribution; sponsor the dog pool with a $5,000 contribution. You can also help us by sponsoring the purchase of or donating grooming tubs, solar tubes, floor tiles, Kuranda dog beds and kennel covers, and ceiling fans. For more information on how to sponsor or donate any of these items, contact us at email@example.com.
- Become our friend on Facebook and join our cause, Fay’s Phoenix House.
- In the St. Louis area? Have expertise or own a company in a profession or trade that might help us with building Fay’s Phoenix House? We are looking for in-kind donation of time, labor, and/or materials. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know if you think you can help.
We want to thank each and every one of you that has shared a poem, a picture, a memory, or a message of support this past week. Fay was a profound example of what really happens to the dogs in the fighting pits and – sometimes with even more horrific savagery – what happens after the fighting. While Fay was special to us, she represents the thousands of victims of dog fighting that suffer every day. Not only must we continue to work hard to help as many victims as we can, but we must take action to stop dog fighting in our own communities and around the country.
